Sept 2011 CTS Car Of The Month 4_6DreameR
My story began long ago, when I was 6 I fell in love with the new edge
Mustangs when I saw one on 35 while going up to my grandparent’s house. My love
of Mustangs continued with my brother, Jason’s black new edge GT. That was the
first car I had ridden in going over 100 mph, getting on the highway. At first
everyone in my family just thought I wanted to be like my brother, but when he
sold it and I continued to dream about Mustangs they knew that one day I would
have one.
I did not get one as my first vehicle thankfully, I ended up buying
a 1990 Dodge RamCharger a month before my 15th birthday. I ended up
sinking some money into that truck fixing little things, but trying to save up for a
Mustang. After a little more than a year and a half I started looking for my
next car. I went on craigslist many times for many hours, and ended up finding a lot of
different Mustangs but all of them were either beat to hell or way out of my
price range. I did end up looking at several, a 98 GT, a
99 Cobra (VERY poorly maintained), and a 91 GT. After those I started to
lose hope and only searched about once a week on my computer or iPod touch.
While on my iPod, at school, I found a 2003 GT. It
immediately caught my attention because of the low miles (66,000) and the black
Cobra wheels. Later that night I told my brother about it so he could take me to
go check it out along with me. So I made the call and set to meet the guy at
Fry’s parking lot on a Saturday afternoon in late August. When I saw it I was
astounded, it was almost exactly what I wanted, the only problem, scored rotors,
check engine light and subwoofers in the trunk. When I sat in it to test drive
it, it was in the perfect position for me already. That was a sign right there
that it was meant for me, so after the test drive, I told him to let my father
look at it the next Saturday and he agreed. That day came and I borrowed my
neighbor’s code reader just to make sure the check engine light was nothing
major. The code ended up to be bad catalytic convertors, which was not a
problem, so my dad gave it the full inspection and took an extensive test drive.
When they showed up at back at my house after the
test drive (not enough room for me)my dad looked at me and smiled, then said “I
see you have a price on the window, what will you take for it with all things
considered?” Then he handed off the dealing to me throwing in an offer here and
there. We eventually talked him down $1500 from the asking price and I could
have given him cash that day but he had to get the title and take all of his
stuff out. The next day my dad drove down to Austin at around 10 am to give the
guy my money and pick it up, because he wouldn’t let me skip class to go get it.
That day of class was the longest ever, as soon as I got out I went up to my
dad’s work to drive it home. It was also a crash course in driving a standard,
as I had only tried on my friend’s turbo civic hatch, after a month of daily
driving it I had it down near perfect.

When I had bought it, there were some bolt ons
already installed like a cold air intake, throttle body and plenum, subframe
connectors, short throw shifter, underdrive pulleys, catted X pipe and SLP
Loudmouth 1 cat-back. Since then I have started building it to be what I want, I
started off with some visual things like black vinyl, mach 1 chin spoiler, roush
rear valances, and HID’s. From there I started to move into the performance of
it, I started off with replacing the old sumitomo tires with some Nitto NT555’s,
then I bought coil-overs, aluminum driveshaft, and a SCT tuner. I had also
swapped my X pipe for Austin’s Prochamber which made the exhaust note a little
quieter and deeper. Currently I have a set of 4.10’s waiting to be installed,
and after I find a new job I will be ordering upper and lower control arms,
along with a bumpsteer kit. Major plans for this car will eventually include a
set of Hitech stage two cams, tubular K member, and possibly a turbo.
I enjoy every day that I drive my car, and I hope to
have it for a long time.

Thanks for all the kind words guys! Ya, I am pretty quiet if I am just meeting you. Can't wait for another drag day, got some goodies that should help with my times. Update on the car, 4.10s are going to be installed Friday.

Interesting....I was the original owner of this car. Slp loudmouth 1 exhaust, Slp X-pipe, Accufab TB, Steeda pullies, Allies Automotive custom subframe connectors, K&N FIPK, MGW short throw shifter, front grill delete, plenum, eibach springs, AmericanMuscle 03/04 Black Cobra rims, JDM C/C plates, 3.73 gears, heavy duty throwout bearing, adjustable clutch, viper alarm with cobalt blue scanner, dual gauge pod on A-pillar (air/fuel, oil pressure), after market body badges....etc I put all this stuff on the car...then decided to upgrade...bought a Z06 Corvette. I washed/clay bar that car every week. Car was always garage kept, even at work it sat in a garage. The badge closest to the drivers side mirror actually covers a very small hole hehe. Loved that car.....no other out there with those specific rims.
